WE LOVE AND CHERISH ALL ANIMALS

Woodcrafting & Sighthounds

Since a young man hiking the Kawartha’s with my malamute, Buck, I have been passionate about our beautiful Canadian outdoors and the animals that reside there. Dogs have a special place in my heart and in 2014 I adopted a retired racing NGA Greyhound named “Hanks Goin’ Crazy” Hank, who was my best buddy throughout a difficult time in my life where I was at the tail end of being a caregiver to my Aunt & nephew, as well as keeping a roof over our heads. Hank was integral in keeping me grounded, focused and bringing joy to my heart when I felt so down, as well as connecting me to other wonderful people & hounds.

Due to Hank and the wonderful Greyhound Community that exists on Social Media, I met my life’s partner Dominie who was, at the time, a founder of an NGA Greyhound Adoption group. Along with her two Greyhounds Onyx & Elvira, she introduced me to Abby who instantly became fast friends with Hank

When my caregiving had ended with the passing of my Aunt, the three of us joined up with the 3 of them and we became a couple with 4 hounds and the days of Long distance dating came to an end with my move to Windsor, Ont. and then a couple of years later to where we are now in rural Wheatley Ont!

We have always promoted Greyhound Adoption and have met many wonderful people and hounds and have attended many events until in 2015 my sweet Hank was diagnosed with a 6.5 lb tumor on his spleen and sadly left us for “The Rainbow Bridge”.  As we have tried to Give Back to the community and been vocal about our love of the retired Racing Greyhound, we were then contacted by a wonderful lady who “had a dog for you”.  He was a special breed from Russia and had been subject to neglect and in fact to this day still has pellet shot under his skin throughout his legs and body.  This good lady had decided our place was the best place for him to have a soft landing so, on a chilly day in September, a one and a half year old or so Hortaya Borzaya named Berkut joined our family and has been my heart’s delight ever since.

In the last year we have lost the Queen and Alpha of our pack, Elvira, and she is deeply missed by us all. She would have definitely been stealing our projects and tucking them under her bed for safekeeping. We smile when we think of her bossing big boy Hank at the Rainbow Bridge while waiting for the rest of us.

Hank & I connected on a very deep level and as a dog with Zero prey drive, I was able to offleash him in areas away from traffic or harm.   This was after EXTENSIVE work on recall along with formalized training classes and we still only Offleashed in protected areas away from traffic or distractions.

I HIGHLY suggest to all to do regular recall exercises with your dogs. It is great for bonding and connection as well as safeguarding them and less stress for you! Only a few minutes a day or every other day can help avert potential disaster.

Charitable Donations

We Encourage You to Donate or Volunteer with your Local Animal groups! It helps these organizations so much and the animals they serve. We do however, advocate for knowledge of the organizations you give your hard earned money to. Please look into the groups, people or charities where the money actually goes the the animals and not in other pockets, or to fuel a negative agenda in regards to Animals.

After many years of watching these two groups excel, we have chosen to support:

112Carlottagalgos and their founder Charlotte with Jan Care as Rep in Ontario Canada   &
Gillian’s Greyhound Adoption in Orillia, Ontario Check them out on FB also!

These 2 organizations, though vastly different in that one is a real Rescue in every sense of the term, and the other facilitates rehabilitation of NGA Retired Greyhounds, have both proven time and again to have the very best intentions and directives regarding the animals in their care and we could not Thank them enough for all they do.  Please consider these two groups or any groups that touch your heart. Giving Back is so very necessary these days.
